Becoming a Member

Why do we emphasize membership at Maranatha? Here are eight reasons why we think believers should also be members of local churches:

1. To fulfill the "one another" commands of Scripture (Gal 5:13; Rom 12:10)
2. To fulfill biblical responsibility towards elders (Heb 13:7, 17)
3. To clearly identify oneself as a believer (Acts 2:41-47)
4. To promote order in the church (1 Cor 14:40; 1 Pet 5:1-2)
5. To make one's commitment to Christ public
6. To fulfill ministry responsibilities (1 Peter 4:10)
7. To enjoy ministry privileges
8. To be held accountable (Gal 6:1-5)

We realize that many people will have questions about what they are signing up for if they choose to join the membership here at Maranatha. We provide a membership class in order to help answer these questions. We make this class available as it is needed. After completing the class on membership, every prospective member is interviewed by a deacon or pastor. Upon the recommendation of the pastors and deacons, each prospective member is brought before the congregation to be formally accepted into membership.
