At Maranatha we are convinced of our responsibility to actively participate in fulfilling the Great Commission. Our highest aim in our missions efforts are captured below: “Missions is not the ultimate goal of the church. Worship is. Missions exist because worship doesn’t. Worship is ultimate, not missions, because God is ultimate, not man. When this age is over, and the countless millions of the redeemed fall on their faces before the throne of God, missions will be no more. It is a temporary necessity. But worship abides forever” (John Piper, Let the Nations be Glad, p. 17).
Missions ResourcesMissions Mandate is a ministry of Inter-City Baptist Church in Allen Park, MI. They host the bi-annual SGI conference (a missions conference for college students and young adults). For the Sake of His Name by David Doran is an excellent book introducing believers to God's plan for the fulfillment of the Great Commission. From the Ground Up by J. Scott Horrell provides a solid introduction to the basics of New Testament church life. A Vision for Missions by Tom Wells gives a great overview of the key motives that should drive our missions efforts.
How to Pray for Missionaries 1. Pray for the health, safety and physical well-being of missionary families.
Disclaimer: The Apostle Paul commended the Bereans for daily comparing his teaching to God's Word "to see if these things were so" (Acts 17:11). The Author of Hebrews further exhorts believers to be discerning, saying, "solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil" (Hebrews 5:14). In light of these texts we encourage readers to digest the resources we provide on our website with discernment (including our own material). These resources may contain ideas that we do not fully embrace. To learn more consider listening to this lecture on biblical discernment.
